Following an assessment by the Carbon Charter Panel earlier this year, we are delighted to have received approved accreditation at Silver Level, in recognition of our efforts to monitor and reduce our carbon emissions.
The Silver Level is only awarded to organisations that, in addition to implementing measures to manage and reduce energy use, have implemented measures that will lead to clear reductions in carbon emissions in the longer term. Our head office here at Claydon Court is a carbon neutral territory, with the site offering water reclamation and highly efficient insulation. We have also recently had solar panels installed (in March 2019), meaning our use of solar energy – as a truly renewable source – will further reduce any negative impact on the environment.
The Panel was most impressed with our “significant reduction in business travel mileage and the pollution associated with it”, where our impressive 23% reduction in business vehicle emissions in 2018 is a direct result of procedures we introduced; such as economical journey planning, staff lift sharing and use of public transport. So our achievement really is a team effort, with each staff member making significant reductions in their own carbon footprint.
This accreditation allows us to show our customers and professional connections that we are playing our part in reducing energy consumption, whilst also making savings. With more and more people waking up to the risks involved with our current levels of consumption, individuals and companies alike are changing their habits in order to reduce their energy use. We are proud to be among Suffolk’s small businesses that communicate their environmental commitment through the Suffolk Carbon Charter brand. For more information, please visit www.greensuffolk.org
