Life On The Deben – A New Landmark Documentary

As a local Suffolk company we are incredibly proud to be one of the Sponsors of Life On The Deben, a major new documentary, written and presented by author and journalist John McCarthy and produced by Woodbridge based film-maker Tim Curtis.

Journeying into the river’s rich past, Life On The Deben looks at its geography, environment and the influence the river has had over the people who have lived by its banks. Featuring wildlife and conservation along the river, the film follows daily life past and present, including boat building, sailing, farming, fishing, milling and even smuggling. From the secret and disputed upper reaches near Debenham, through the boatyards and bustle of Woodbridge, down to the sea at Bawdsey and Felixstowe Ferry, this fascinating documentary traces the entire length of the Deben.

For a river just over 25 miles long, the Deben packs a mighty punch in terms of tranquil beauty, ever changing scenery and astonishing history. Recent discoveries have shown that the Deben was a far more significant Anglo-Saxon region than was first thought and the film features real-life detectorists and the leading archeologists who reveal what has been found at Rendlesham.

“McCarthy takes you on a fascinating insightful journey along one of England’s most historical rivers, all seen through the eyes of Curtis’ breath-taking cinematography. An ode to the significant natural beauty of our forever changing landscape.”

Two years in the making, the film was premiered at the Riverside Cinema, Woodbridge in December 2017 and is now available to buy on DVD and limited edition Blu-Ray.
